Reducing stress during the holidays“It’s the most wonderful time of the year” is a common phrase heard throughout the holiday season. Unfortunately, most people do not feel that way about the holidays. Instead of the holidays being a time of joy and merriment, they are instead a time of hair pulling, crying, and a lot of stress. And yet, we still insist on having big parties, a house full of extended family, and a turkey dinner. If you wish to avoid becoming a Grinch during Christmas, here are a few things to keep in mind.

Enlist the Help of Others

Santa Clause doesn’t make the toys for all the boys and girls around the world alone, so why should you plan everything for your holiday? Find your own version of Santa’s elves to help give your holiday a less stressful time. There is no shame in asking for help; plus the work goes by a lot faster if you have someone to talk to.

Plan and Prepare

Those people who plan and prepare their parties and dinners are most likely to have a more successful than those who just wing it. Preparation can help you in any aspect of your life.

Make a list and check it twice! Making lists helps you not forget important things needed for your party (like ham, olives, or Yams.) Also, make a list of all the people you need to buy gifts for and what you plan on getting them.

Remember to be Flexible

Be prepared for the unexpected. Plan on things going wrong. If you struggle to think what could possibly go wrong, just watch Christmas Vacation. That should clear some things up. Hope for the best and expect the worst is a good phrase to remember.

Overall, the holidays are a time of joy and giving, not of selfishness, stress, and worry. Try to keep that in mind next time you decide to throw a big party last minute.
